Michael Druks is an Israeli artist.
Born in 1940, Jerusalem, Israel.
Died in 2022, London, UK.
Druks is considered one of the most important artists of the 1970s, the years in which the conceptual stream was dominant in Israeli art. His later works reveal that conceptual thinking can also be expressed in traditional painting techniques. Therefore, Druks sees a creative challenge in finding new and original ways of expression in the medium of painting. His paintings are not easily devoted to the viewer, but rather require effort. His works are enigmatic and can be interpreted differently by each viewer.
Druks participated in many group exhibitions and exhibited numerous solo exhibitions in Israel and Europe. He exhibited twice solo exhibitions at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem (1992, 1983) and in 2007 the Museum of Art in Ein Harod presented a comprehensive retrospective exhibition of his works.
Michael Druks was praised for his daring innovations in his works. Therefore he received, among others, Sandberg Prize for Israeli Art, Israel Museum, Jerusalem (1973), Pundak Prize, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Tel Aviv (1993), Dizengoff Prize for Painting and Sculpture, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Tel Aviv (2005) and Life Project Prize, Ministry of Education (2005).
