Joshua Neustein is a contemporary visual artist.
Born 1940, Danzig, Poland.
Lives and works in New York City.
Neustein is one of the most significant artists in the history of Israeli art and is considered a key figure in the field of drawing in Israel. Neustein is a conceptual artist who examines the place of the artist in the world in general and in the artistic space in particular. Many of his works examine the real boundaries and the limits of the medium. The means of expression vary according to the subject and he creates through drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, and installation.
Neustein participated in group exhibitions and exhibited solo exhibitions in Israel and abroad.
Neustein exhibited solo exhibitions at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem (in 1970, 1982 and 2012), the Tel Aviv Art Museum, Tel Aviv (in 1977) and Venice Biennale, Italy (in 1995).
Neustein was awarded, among others, the Erest Prize for Painting and Sculpture, Jerusalem (1970), the Jerusalem Prize (1972) and Sandberg Prize for Israeli Art, Israel Museum, Jerusalem (1974).
